Highway 99 widening project ahead of schedule
Widening of Highway 99 from Yuba City to Sacramento is on track for completion this fall, two years sooner than planned, says Caltrans.
A four-lane bypass in the Tudor area is scheduled to open in early September, according to Mark Dinger, spokesman for Caltrans District 3 in Marysville, who called reconstruction "70 percent" complete.
Drivers would face new traffic signals later that month at the Highway 113 and Wilson Road intersections, which are being realigned as part of the 7-mile project.
The Tudor bypass is the fourth of five segments of Highway 99 to be widened in the $54.8 million project. Groundbreaking took place in May 2009 and construction was planned to take four years.
Motorists passing through the construction zone will continue to face a temporary realignment of Highway 99 and a reduced 45 mph speed limit. Radar alert signs to display driver speeds were installed June 11 for southbound traffic and will go up in the northbound lane this week, according to Caltrans.
The final piece of the Highway 99 expansion includes a second bridge to join the existing span over the Feather River, north of Nicolaus. Caltrans began seeking bids for the new bridge in May and work could begin as soon as late October, Dinger said.
