Briefs: $25K reward in Elk Grove killing

A new reward of $25,000 is being offered by the Sikh community of Sacramento Valley and Yuba City for information in the murder of Balbir S. Dhami at his home May 19 in Elk Grove.

Police officers were called to a shooting at the home on Marla Way. Dhami, 53, was declared dead at the scene and a woman in her 40s was transported to the hospital. She has survived.

According to a June 17 report on the Sacramento Police Department website, a black male, short with a thin build, came to the house and shot the two victims just inside the front door of the home.

The suspect vehicle, a four-door gold Mazda Protégé or 323 with a black hood and black front and rear bumpers, was seen in a surveillance video in the area

Sutter County

Supervisor meeting on TV

Comcast will rebroadcast a Sutter County Board of Supervisors meeting from last week that never aired because of technical difficulties.

The Sept. 13 meeting, which included a discussion on the Sutter Butte Flood Control Agency's progress, was supposed to be broadcast last Wednesday, but didn't because of an ongoing issue, since fixed.

Comcast will show the Sept. 13 meeting at 8 p.m. today. There is no Sutter County Board of Supervisors meeting this week.

Yuba County

Pact for climate plan approved

On a 4-1 vote, with Supervisor Andy Vasquez in opposition, Yuba County supervisors Tuesday approved a contract with AECOM Technical Services Inc. to begin preparing a climate action plan for the county.

AECOM, which also assisted the county in its controversial General Plan 2030 update, will be paid through a state grant, with a $13,500 local match. A board workshop next month will formally kick off the process for forming the plan.

Yuba County

Consultants hired for zoning laws

Yuba County supervisors unanimously approved a $43,500 agreement with Dyett & Bhatia for preparing an updated zoning ordinance and development code for the county.

County Community Services & Development Director Kevin Mallen said the existing code is more than a half century old and desperately needs revisions.

Yuba City

Oct. 1 registration for Harley ride

Registration starts at 9 a.m. Oct. 1 at Guidera's Harley-Davidson in Yuba City for the eighth annual Harley ride benefiting the Geweke's Caring for Women Foundation to support its efforts in breast cancer awareness.

The fundraiser is from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the business, 720 Onstott Frontage Road. All bikes are welcome and the $25 entry donation includes a run pin, T-shirt and buffet lunch at Colusa Casino Resort.

College hosts Information Day

Yuba College is hosting College Information Day from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday to help students learn their transfer options.

Representatives from California State Universities, Universities of California and private universities will attend the event in the center of the campus.

Local high schools have been invited and students can check with their counseling departments. Community members are also welcome.

Bangor

School board has opening

Applications are being accepted to fill a vacancy on the Bangor Union Elementary School District board.

Those applying must live with the school district's boundaries. Terms are for four years.

Application packets, due completed by Oct. 12, can be picked up at the school office at 7549 Oro Bangor Highway, Bangor, or by calling 679-2434.

Three selected candidates will be interviewed during the board's meeting at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 20 at the school.

Yuba City

Dog competition set for Sunday

The Feather River Dog Club Match is set Sunday at the Yuba-Sutter Fairgrounds, 442 Franklin Ave., Yuba City.

Activities include an obedience workshop at 9 a.m. and conformation judging at 10 a.m. Each entry will be judged three separate times in three rings by three judges.

Puppies and adults will be judged separately.

Entry fees are $12 per dog the day of the match and $10 for an additional entry for the same dog.

Dobbins/Oregon house

Community plan ready for review

After years in the works, a community plan for the Dobbins/Oregon House area is ready for residents to peruse.

Forged alongside the county's 2030 General Plan update, the community plan is on CD and available free for any foothills residents, according to a member of the subcommittee who helped create it.

The CD is available at the Dobbins/Oregon House Fire Protection District auxiliary thrift store, on Marysville Road in Oregon House opposite the Alcouffe Community Center.
