Briefs: Control burn guts home near Brownsville

Brownsville

An escaped control burn Tuesday afternoon gutted a home outside Brownsville, the state Department of Forestry and Fire Protection reported.

No one was hurt.

The homeowner's name was not available Tuesday.

Cal Fire officials said the man was working on some type of control burn that escaped around 1:20 p.m.

Flames quickly spread to a workshed then into the man's rural area home, Cal Fire spokeswoman Lynne Tolmachoff said.

"Both the home and the shed were total losses," Tolmachoff said.

The blaze also consumed more than an acre of vegetation, officials said.

A damage estimate was not available.

Foothill firefighters worked with Cal Fire and the Washington Ridge Inmate Hand Crew and knocked down the flames after about one hour. Mop up efforts continued into the early evening, Tolmachoff said.
