Man arrested in shooting death near Parks Bar Bridge
A 10-hour manhunt ended early Friday in Yuba County with one man in handcuffs facing a homicide charge.
Joseph Aaron Martin was arrested at about 1 a.m. in the area of Laurellen Road and Highway 70, Sheriff Steve Durfor said in a statement.
Martin, 21, is the prime suspect in Thursday's shooting death of a 33-year-old man along the Yuba River, about three miles downstream from the Parks Bar Bridge.
Lt. Shaun Smith declined to say how deputies linked Martin to the killing, citing the ongoing investigation.
"As the investigation progresses, there will be more we can release, but it's still early in the investigation," Smith said Friday.
The victim's name was withheld pending notification of the family.
Sheriff's officials said the man's last known address was in Boulder, Colo.
Martin was arrested after deputies found a vehicle just north of Marysville.
"Further evidence was located and the investigation into the motive for the shooting is continuing," Durfor stated.
A witness, who asked not to be identified, came upon the body around 3 p.m., and said he heard multiple shots fired about one hour earlier.
Multiple shell casings were found at the scene.
The victim was laying outside a white Ford F-150 pickup under a large tree on a dirt and gravel road.
The victim was face up on the ground with his legs wrapped around the rear tire. The truck had a specialty license plate from Colorado that said "10th Mountain Division."
An autopsy was performed Friday. Results were not released.
