Filipino typhoon stirs aid efforts in Y-S

She looked skyward while telling other Filipinos of how her sister had to climb furniture to escape the rising floodwater Friday as the storm surge from Typhoon Haiyan made landfall in the Philippines.

Eve Rey, 65, of Yuba City, said her sister, who lives blocks from the sea in Tacloban City, struggled to keep her head above the water as her single-story house quickly filled up. "I haven't talked to her yet, but thanks to email correspondence with other family members, I know she survived," Rey said.
