Drive to oust supervisor fails
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Logue critic Archer says he winds up 32 signatures short
An effort to recall Yuba County Supervisor Dan Logue ended Monday after the deadline came and went for turning in recall petitions.
Rex Archer, a long-time critic of Logue, said late Monday afternoon he was 32 signatures short of the minimum needed to move the petition forward.
“I came close,” he said. “I needed 1,074, under unfair rules. I think we got 80 percent of registered voters.”
Archer said it was unfair that he received an outdated list of registered voters. He needed signatures totaling 25 percent of registered voters in District 1.
“The list is 6 years old,” he said. “Linda has changed tremendously in six years. Many of the names, my committee found, included dead people and people who no longer live in Linda.”
Yuba County Registrar of Voters Donna Hillegass said the claim of a 6-year-old list is untrue.
“Lists are as current as we can make them with information we obtain from various sources and the public,” Hillegass said. “Whenever a person comes in to obtain a file, that file is generated at that time. Unfortunately, people move and relocate and we’re not high on the priority list to notify.”
Hillegass said she was not sure where Archer obtained his list or how long ago it was printed.
Archer’s efforts to recall Logue began in September after he delivered a notice of intent to recall the elected official at a Board of Supervisors meeting.
Hillegass said that if Archer wants to continue his pursuit, he would have to start the process over again.
Archer was hoping to have the recall appear on the February presidential primary.
Logue said he has not given much thought to the effort since he was served the notice.
“I’ve spent my time trying to get the levees fixed and serve the people of Linda and Yuba County,” Logue said.
Logue was elected to the board in 2002. He won a new four-year term when he defeated Archer by only 37 votes in June 2006. The final count came after Archer requested a recount.
Logue has also filed a statement of intention with the Secretary of State's Office to run for the 3rd Assembly District seat that includes Yuba County. If elected to the Assembly, Logue would have to give up his supervisors seat.
