Forum site set up for mail complaints
While the U.S. Postal Service implements a plan to move mail sorting from an Olivehurst facility to one in West Sacramento, Yuba County is taking comments and complaints from local residents on problems they've experienced as a result.
A new online forum, checkyourmail.freeforums.org, allows residents in Yuba and seven other counties served by the Olivehurst site to share their experiences and air grievances over mail service.
County officials said they set up the forum after previous moves to close the Olivehurst facility resulted in significant mail delays. Since the mail was shifted again last month, a handful of residents have said they've experienced delays again.
Postal officials reversed course and re-opened the Olivehurst sorting facility when the previous delays became endemic. Local officials have expressed skepticism anything would change this time.
The postal service made the move to close the Olivehurst site in the face of a mandate to cut costs while volume of mail has dropped significantly during the economic downturn and isn't expected to fully return to previous levels.
