Farmers Market seeks input

Planning is under way for the 2013 season of the Glenn County Certified Farmers Market.

A meeting is scheduled Tuesday to get input from vendors, customers and organizations who have participated in the past or may want to in the future.

Kandi Manhart, executive officer of the Glenn County Resource Conservation District, said she wants to talk about the market survey results received after the market closed in October.

"We want to continue to get input on the market and how may we best advertise it to the community," Manhart said Monday.

The meeting will run 3 p.m.-4:30 p.m. at the RCD office in the USDA Service Center, 132 N. Enright Ave., Suite C. Willows.

Those planning to attend should call 934-4601, Ext. 120 or email Manhart at Kandi.Manhart@ca.nacdnet.net by Thursday.

Again, the district wants to know if it should change the time or locations of the markets, which are conducted Wednesday evenings in downtown Willows and Saturday mornings at Library Park in Orland.

The resource conservation district also is seeking community members to sit on the market advisory committee.

She is looking at about 15 members on the market committee at this point, but that could be reduced to between seven and nine members depending on the RCD board of directors approval, Manhart added.

"Anyone who is interested in helping the market succeed is welcome," she said.

Market Manager Lisa Tietz reviewed the survey results, Manhart said, and told her she received a lot of great comments.

There were no "red flags" in the survey. Live music and special events were popular suggestions.

"We will look at that and see what financially makes sense," Manhart said.
