Event Saturday at Riverfront Park

Friday Night Live is planning an all-day concert on Saturday to raise awareness of methamphetamine abuse in the Yuba-Sutter area.

Music Over Meth is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. and run to 8 p.m. at the Mervyn's Pavilion at Riverfront Park in Marysville. Gates open at 9:30 a.m. and there is no charge for admission.

Music Over Meth is a concert designed to raise awareness of the dangers of methamphetamine addiction, to celebrate recovery and to share the alternatives to drug use, such as music.

"This is basically to bring a message of hope and to share alternatives to drug use," said Nancy Cook, executive director of Friday Night Live. "We chose this activity to promote alternatives to meth use and to give kids a fun place to go during the summer."

The bands scheduled to perform at the concert are almost all local musicians. Among them are 7 Mile Station, Re-WOVEN, Declined by the State, Amber Dawn and the Martian Puppits.

Between sets, guest speakers and videos will discuss the dangers of drug abuse. Friday Night Live and Rhythm 105.9 FM will also host a special area for families to play games.

HOMELESS SHELTER?
Yuba City is considering using the former fire station No. 4 on Walton Avenue as a cold-weather shelter for homeless families. Is this a good idea?
Yes. We've gone too long with limited options for homeless families.
It's a good idea, but the fire station is a bad location for this.
No. The city has better things they can use the building for.
I'm not sure.
