Nielsen named to committees
Sen. Jim Nielsen, R-Gerber, has been appointed as vice chairman of the Committee on Governmental Organization and as a member of the committees on Health, Insurance and Veterans Affairs.
Nielsen said he is concerned with the potential impacts on California by the implementation of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, commonly known as "Obamacare."
However, that program is federal.
He also vowed his support for North State veterans.
"Our veterans serve our country with integrity and pride; we must give them the support they have earned through their service," Nielsen said in a statement.
These committee assignments follow Nielsen's appointment as Caucus Whip for the Republican Party in the Senate.
The appointments were recommended by Senate President Darrell Steinberg, D-Sacramento, and confirmed Thursday by the Rules Committee.
Nielsen was sworn-in to represent the 4th District on Jan. 10.
The district includes all or parts of Butte, Colusa, Del Norte, Glenn, Nevada, Placer, Shasta, Siskiyou, Sutter, Tehama, Trinity and Yuba counties.
