Briefs: Sikh Parade is Nov. 4 in Yuba City

The 33rd annual Nagar Kirtan and Sikh Parade is set at 11 a.m. Nov. 4 in Yuba City, with other activities also set during the weekend at Sikh Temple Gurdwara, 2468 Tierra Buena Road.

Activities include an open house and fireworks at 9 p.m. Nov. 2 and an all day open house Nov. 3.

MARYSVILLE

Poe video shown at Burrow Center

Edgar Allan Poe is one of several writers featured in the Imagination Mind Education videos at the Lee Burrow Center for the Arts in Marysville.

The program is from 2 p.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday at 630 E St. Admission is free.

The eight-week series, which started Oct. 16, features three videos looking at classic to contemporary work, at the same time every Tuesday through Dec. 4.

Videos featured Tuesday are "Poe — Genres and Degrees of the Fantastic," "Hawthorne, Poe and the Eden Complex" and "Jules Verne and the Robinsade."

Featured Oct. 30 are "Lewis Carroll: Puzzles, Language and Audience," "H.G. Wells: We Are all Talking Animals" and "Franz Kafka — Dashed Fantasies."

EAST NICOLAUS

Trunk, Treat Carnival is Oct. 31

A Trunk and Treat Carnival, bringing Halloween festivities and fundraising for schools, is set from 4:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. Oct. 31 at Sammie's restaurant, 2517 El Centro Blvd., East Nicolaus.

Hosted by the restaurant, the event includes a family pumpkin carving contest, a tri-tip dinner and games.

In addition, Marcum-Illinois, Browns and Pleasant Grove elementary schools and East Nicolaus High School are hosting a variety of booths.

Admission is free.

Coats for Kids slated Oct. 27

The 16th annual Yuba-Sutter Coats for Kids and Adults free giveaway, sponsored by the Sunset Buttes Lions Club of Yuba City, is set Oct. 27 Camp Singer, 1023 14th St., Marysville.

Children and adults will be able to pick up a free coat and sweatshirt from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

The items were collected through donations brought to the four Butler Cleaners in Yuba City and Marysville, Raley's and Bel-Air supermarkets in Yuba City and Village Pharmacy in Wheatland.

A total of 2,400 coats and sweatshirts were given away during the 2011 event.
