Open house for veterans

An open house for the Veterans Memorial Center in Marysville is set from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday. It is hosted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 948 and the American Legion Post 42.

The open house is to showcase the rebuilt building. A fire in June 2009 destroyed the roof and west side.

Cake, coffee and punch will be available.

The memorial center is at 17th and B streets.

Flood control sessions set

A series of six open house meetings about plans to fortify Feather River levees kicks off Monday, with three forums planned in Yuba City.

All forums will run from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The Sutter Butte Flood Control Agency is hosting the open houses to share details of the 44-mile, $250 million project, which would overhaul flood walls on the river's western bank from the Sutter Bypass north to the Thermalito Afterbay between 2012 and 2014.

• Thursday: River Valley High School, 801 El Margarita Road, Yuba City

• May 10: Live Oak Middle School, 2802 Pennington Road, Live Oak

• May 11: Central Gaither Elementary School, 8403 Bailey Road, Yuba City

Celebrations at Sutter library

Two celebrations are planned next weekend at Sutter County Library in Yuba City to mark Mother's Day and Cinco de Mayo.

In addition, an orientation and registration meeting is planned for a special project with information about abuse and the effects of abuse.

Events are sponsored by the Sutter County Literacy program.

Planned Saturday are:

• Mother's Day Celebration: 1-3 p.m., with free books for children.

• Cinco de Mayo Celebration: 6:30-8:30 p.m., co-sponsored by La Familia.

On Tuesday, and orientation and registration meeting for the special project starts at 6:30 p.m.
