Local talent shows off in Orland
John Wayne, children, wildlife, landscapes and more will greet visitors to the Orland Art Center's August show.
The annual Group Exhibit features the work of 24 artists whose creations include oil paintings, pastels, acrylics, watercolors, wooden sculptures and fine art quilts.
They come from Ashland, Ore., to the Orland area and were chosen from 60 entries, according to Orland Arts Commissioner Rae Turnbull.
This is a juried show in which the seven arts commissioners determined whose work would be shown, she said.
"It was difficult," Turnbull said. "There were so many good entries."
In the end, 45 pieces are in the exhibit that runs through Aug. 25, at the gallery at 732 Fourth St.
"We have only one group show per year," she said. "The others are by invitation."
Local artists include Beth Bjorklund, of Orland, whose acrylic still-life of peppers is in the show along with wood carver Glenn McCune, of Willows, who has statues in the exhibit.
Betsy van Tol, another Orland area artist, has work in the show along with Peter Piatt of Chico.
Jon Shult of Oroville, Julie Bonney of Oregon, Judie Noffsinger of Orland and Candy Matthews of Orland also have work in the show.
Adrian Noffsinger of Orland, Carol van Tol of Willows, Patty Bambauer of Capay and Gyda Buelna of Orland are in the show, too, along with Mary Allen of Orland.
Chico artists include Betty Benson, Paula Beehner, Mary Amicarella and Lolita Burd, Turnbull said.
Helen Madeleine of Forrest Ranch, Annette Carroll of Orland, Vic Kronburg of Willows, Ellen Cleek and Vincent Cleek of Orland round out the event's artists.
Additional subjects include trees, flowers, birds, and more.
The gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday, 1 p.m. - 7 p.m. and admission is free.
