Talk Back: Feb. 8, 2009

A rally is held in front of Butte Vista School over the status of two administrators on paid leave:

"That was hilarious! A rally? I don't think 12 people constitute a rally. Is that all they can scrounge up? 12 people? I mean really, just 12 people in a school with hundreds of kids? Good luck with that..."

— badpress

"Has anyone bothered to check how this school compares to others not only in Sutter County but the entire state on statewide testing? Is it not the most or second most populated school in Sutter County? This school is among the best. We have the administration, staff and students to thank for that. Hello? This, folks, is the BIG picture. Get with the program."

— sixburgher

"OK people, we can all be on different sides, however, I think it's essential to let the District Office conduct it's investigation and wait for the results... Please let the District Office handle the situation and when everything is over, the truth will be revealed and finally, please have your support or protest rallies at the district office (where it counts) and not at Butte Vista School. Just my two cents."

"'When people don't have information, they invent it,' said Margaret Cioffi, a retired Yuba City High School teacher. Wow! This profound statement sums up Yuba City! Whether it be regarding schools or people's lives."

Yuba College trustees rescind a pay raise for Chancellor Nicki Harrington:

"Folks, this is not the end of it. The board is saying that they goofed up on the way they discussed her raise in closed session... Keep the heat on. Keep the champagne on ice. Roll up your sleeves and get ready for round two of this battle. EVERYBODY associated with Yuba College has had to sacrifice in some manner. The Chancellor must do the same."

“So, they vote to rescind because they got caught and now they want to spend more money they don’t have to hire a negotiator to determine what her raise should be. Unbelievable! Why don’t they use that money to help bring back staff or bring back classes.” -hd07rider
“Yuba College needs to downsize. Turn it back into a local JC and get rid of the schools in other counties. Get rid of the dorms and whatever else they don’t need. And they wont need an overpaid chancellor. And while they are doing it they can cut the pay and benefits for everyone else.”
