Colusa Avenue wreck snarls traffic at Plumas Street
A Yuba City man was hospitalized Wednesday after witnesses said he ran a stoplight and slammed into another vehicle.
Richard Egidio, 52, was taken to Rideout Memorial Hospital with minor injuries, Yuba City fire Battalion Chief John Limas said.
Egidio was treated and released a few hours later. No other injuries were reported.
"He absolutely ran that red light, crashed into a car and flipped over," eyewitness Patty Vaughn said.
Egidio was headed north on Plumas Street around noon in a small recreational vehicle when he drove through the intersection on Colusa Avenue and ran into a GMC Envoy driven by Clinton Claxton of Plumas Lake, witnesses told police.
"I was turning right onto (Plumas) coming over the (10th Street) Bridge and he just went right into me," Claxton said.
A shaken Claxton declined medical treatment at the scene, but his vehicle was badly damaged.
"I'm not hurt, that I know of," Claxton said.
Egidio's RV landed on its side, blocking the southbound lane of Plumas for a short time.
Traffic was slowed through the busy intersection for about 45 minutes.
Yuba City police spokeswoman Shawna Pavey said neither drugs nor alcohol are believed to have been factors in the crash, but said the investigation was just getting under way.
