Talk Back: Pool donation, police dog, foothills store, stores' fate

$900,000 donation floats Sutter pool

A recent anonymous donation of nearly $1 million is expected to keep the Sutter Community Pool permanently afloat.

We love the Sutter Pool my kids spend all day there at least once a week! Our whole community is very thankful for this generous donation!

— Mariah Titus

This is community funding at its best! This is how we can create all kinds of changes that our area can use ... working together!

— Fotine Halikaskopriva

When I heard of this donation months ago I was beside myself ... such a wonderful gift ...

Marysville police dog takes sniff out of crime

An appellate court decision upholding the value of Tommy's nose in helping uncover drug evidence has been circulated for use by criminal attorneys across the state.

Great job, Tommy & nice article Nancy!

Oregon House woman plans foothills store

Jenny Cavaliere said she hopes to see a nearly two-year quest fulfilled when she opens Oregon House Farms Store on her ranch. Opponents, mostly neighbors, worried a store's presence would bring too much traffic.

Kudos to Jenny Cavaliere for having the vision — and determination — to launch such an enterprise. Foodies may soon be putting Oregon House on their regional map.

— Cynthia Fontayne

A great asset to our area! Thank you Yuba County for giving her the consideration and approving her store! As far as her neighbors go, get a life!

— Jackie Berg

Seems like her remote location would hinder business. I don't think her neighbors have anything to worry about. Just wondering why she didn't look for retail space in town? There's plenty available.

Yuba City's Sears, Kmart fates unclear

The fate of two major Yuba City stores hangs in limbo after their parent company announced it would close at least 100 stores across the country.

In all fairness I rarely shop at Sears and never at Kmart, however, I seriously doubt anyone would be willing to drive to Chico or Sac to visit these stores. I think sales would increase at the Yuba-Sutter Walmart, Kohl's and Target stores. Meh.

— Olive Banks

I would love to see Sears move out and Burlington Coat Factory or Old Navy move in!

— Sonya Escobar

The Kmart in Grass Valley is a very nice store and always busy.
