Local artists wanted for mural project
Community members interested in participating can pick up an application at the Arts Council office, 430 Market St., Suite C, or at their school's office. Applicants should return the form and one 81⁄2-by-11-inch sheet of paper representing their interpretation of the theme.
The Colusa Arts Council is seeking local painters and drawers to participate in a mobile mural project.
The deadline to submit applications has been extended to March 1 and adult artists as well as high school students are urged participate.
The mobile mural project is a community art project created on panels on the back of a flatbed track that can be moved or displayed at local parades and craft fairs.
"There will be two murals, 6 feet by 8 feet, which will be free standing. It's an opportunity for community involvement. Here is your chance to take part in producing a community mural," said Amelia Harter, executive director of the Arts Council. "Hopefully we'll be done in time for Pioneer Day," said Elvira Gutierrez, a Colusa photographer who is coordinating the project.
The theme of the project is: Create-Inspiration; Create-Unity; Create-Love; Create-Vision.
The mural will be a patchwork of multiple artists' work unified by the common theme. The creators are hoping the piece will be dynamic and diverse.
"We're open to anything any artist is willing to do. We want it to be free form. We don't want there to be boundaries. We found it to be best to leave it open to artists' interpretation," said Gutierrez.
The committee has received applications already, which have shown a wealth of area talent.
"We've received some very detailed drawings, beautiful," said Gutierrez.
"It's a chance for a lot of individuals to show what they can do. We hope they are unique and individual because that's what art is all about," said Fred Welcome, president of the Arts Council board.
