Unemployment numbers remain high in Yuba, Sutter counties
Unemployment was still high in Yuba and Sutter counties in January, but significantly down from where it was a year earlier, according to figures released Friday by the state Employment Development Department.
In Sutter County in January, the non-seasonally adjusted rate was 19.4 percent, down from 21.5 percent a year earlier. Yuba County had a similar drop, from 20.3 percent in January 2011 to 17.9 percent in January of this year.
On the downside of the ledger, both counties’ rates were among the highest still in the state, with Sutter ranking 61st out of 64 counties, and Yuba ranking 56th. Colusa County, where the unemployment rate was 27 percent in January, was the lowest ranking county in the state.
California’s unemployment rate overall was 10.9 percent in January, showing ongoing improvement. Nationally, the figure was static at 8.3 percent, where stronger-than-expected job gains were offset by more people re-entering the workforce.
