Body of missing Challenge man found in Sacramento River
The body of a Yuba County foothills man who went into the Sacramento River following a fishing trip last weekend was found Thursday afternoon by a Sutter County boat patrol.
David Howard Roe, 59, was found at 1:45 p.m. about two miles south of the Grimes Boat Landing, the Colusa County Sheriff's Department reported.
Roe, of Challenge, had fallen into the river about 11 p.m. Saturday after he and friends had docked at the landing.
The Sheriff's Department reported that his friends had walked up ahead of Roe when they heard him screaming for help.
By the time they got back to the river, he was gone.
"They looked for him for a little while and then called 911," sheriff's Lt. Shane Maxey said earlier this week.
An autopsy was scheduled for Friday, but Sgt. Kevin Erdelt said there was no obvious signs of foul play.
The search for Roe began Saturday night and continued through the week.
And while the fishermen reportedly had been drinking heavily that day, and alcohol could have played a part in the incident, Erdelt said there has been no arrests or citations issued.
