Yuba City man run over by girlfriend dies

A Yuba City man who was run over by a vehicle in a parking lot last month has died, officials at Rideout Regional Medical Center in Marysville confirmed on Monday.

Miguel Andrade, 35, had been at Rideout with head injuries since he was run over in the Live Oak Apartments parking lot in Yuba City on the evening of Oct. 30.

As friends and family worked at a car wash Monday afternoon in Yuba City to raise money for Andrade's funeral expenses, his brother and sister-in-law said they'll remember a man who was devoted to his family and willing to help anyone.

"He was a good guy," said Rick Andrade of Yuba City. "In his younger years he had a rough life, but he was making positive changes."

He said his brother was survived by five children and two grandchildren.

"He had a big family, and you can tell he was loved by how many people showed up here," Rick Andrade said.

Megan Vazquez, whom police described as Andrade's girlfriend, was driving the Hyundai Sonata that ran over Andrade.

Though witness reports said the couple were arguing before the accident, Yuba City police determined the incident was an accident in a report forwarded to the Sutter County District Attorney's Office.

Rick Andrade said he believes charges could still be filed, and he doesn't agree with the Police Department's finding.

"That's just my opinion," he said. "There are a lot of stories out there about what happened. It's hard to know unless you were there."

The accident occurred in the apartments' north parking lot near Downie Street. Andrade was pinned by the vehicle's axle for at least 10 minutes before he was removed and transported for medical attention. Vazquez passed a field sobriety test after the accident, according to police.

Rick Andrade also said his brother, who never regained consciousness, stopped breathing Thursday, but officially donated his organs on Saturday.

Among the recipients were a Michigan man who received Andrade's liver and a local person who received one of his kidneys. The other kidney was donated to science, said sister-in-law Annmarie Andrade.

In addition to the car wash, Andrade's friends and family will have a bake sale this week and a special Zumba dance class on Friday to raise money for funeral expenses. The class will be held from 7 p.m.-8 p.m. at the Exer-son Studio at 885 Gray Avenue in Yuba City.

Annmarie Andrade said the family is counting on grace to deal with his death.

"God's going to see it through," she said. "He's had his hands on it from the beginning."
