Yuba City man jailed on rape charges in Sacramento
A Yuba City man is behind bars, accused of raping and kidnapping a woman earlier this year, the Sacramento Police Department said Friday.
Sarbjit Singh Sandhu was booked into the Sacramento County Jail on 10 felony counts, including forcible rape, forcible sodomy, forcible oral copulation and kidnapping with intent to commit sexual assault. He was held without bail.
Sandhu is scheduled to be arraigned on Monday in Sacramento County Superior Court.
Police said Sandhu, 32, kidnapped a woman at gunpoint on Jan. 24 while she was on her way home from work in northern Sacramento.
Police did not say how they identified Sandhu as a suspect in the sexual assault.
The woman, who was said to be in her 20s, was bound and blindfolded and taken to an undetermined location, about 40 minutes from Sacramento, where she was assaulted by two people, police said.
Sandhu was arrested Thursday at his Yuba City home by Sacramento police and the Yuba City SWAT team.
The second suspect has not been identified. Police are asking for the public's help to identify the perpetrator.
