Cop in strip search loses Marysville job

Joshua Jon Hendrickson, who was convicted Thursday of authorizing an illegal strip search while working as a Marysville Police Department officer, is no longer employed by the city, Police Chief Wallace Fullerton said Friday.

Fullerton limited his comments to a two-paragraph press release.

"While I cannot discuss any of the specifics of the criminal case or Mr. Hendrickson's former employment with the city, I would like to say that I support District Attorney Pat McGrath's decision to prosecute this case," Fullerton said.

Fullerton did not say when Hendrickson left the force or whether he resigned or was fired.

A jury found Hendrickson guilty of authorizing Officer Amy Alfred to search Stacy Michelle May on a Saturday afternoon in January at 10th and Chestnut streets while cars passed by.

"Mr. McGrath and the members of his office who were assigned to this case were tasked with a difficult job. On behalf of the city, I applaud their efforts," Fullerton said.

The jury reached its verdict in about an hour.

Hendrickson is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 15. The Yuba County Probation Department will recommend a sentence to Judge Julia Scrogin.

Hendrickson stopped May's car because she was not wearing a seat belt. After doing a pat-down search on May, he summoned Alfred, who allegedly put on rubber gloves and performed a body cavity search.

A jury trial for Alfred is scheduled Sept. 23. Fullerton did not comment on her employment status.

Hendrickson and Alfred were placed on paid administrative leave shortly after the search incident.
