Search warrant served
FBI had papers for visit to Sekhon home and office
FBI agents served a search warrant when they visited the Yuba City home and office of Arjinderpal (A.J.) Sekhon, a doctor and congressional candidate in the Democratic primary election, and his wife, Daljit Kaur Sekhon, a dentist.
FBI spokesman Steve Dupre confirmed Friday that several agents from the agency's Sacramento office served the search warrant Wednesday at Sekhon's home and also his office, the Redding Record-Searchlight reported Saturday.
The Appeal-Democrat first reported Thursday that FBI agents a day earlier had appeared at Sekhon's office and possibly his home. Sekhon did not immediately return phone calls or e-mail messages seeking comment in the wake of the FBI's visit.
Dupre declined to comment on the nature of the investigation. He said the search warrant was sealed in U.S. Eastern District Court in Sacramento.
Calls to Sekhon's attorney, Johnny Griffin of Sacramento, have not been returned.
Sekhon, 59, a U.S. Army Reserve colonel, won the 2nd District congressional primary election in 2006 but was beaten by the incumbent, Rep. Wally Herger, R-Chico, in the general election, 64.2 percent to 32.5 percent. Sekhon is opposed in the June 3 primary election by Supervisor Jeff Morris of Weaverville and musician John Jacobson of Weed.
In an e-mail to the Redding Record-Searchlight, Sekhon wrote: "The FBI visit was for Sekhon Medical Group Inc. and has nothing to do with A.J. Sekhon.
"It seems like dirty politics, which we anticipated earlier, and newspapers are reporting it without any facts and are becoming part of this smear campaign against Dr. Sekhon," the e-mail read.
Bob Mulholland, campaign adviser for the California Democratic Party, said Friday that he was unaware of the FBI's raid, and as far as he knew, Sekhon was still in the race.
