Former sheriff detective interrupts burglary

A Yuba City man was arrested Thursday morning after an alleged home burglary was interrupted by a former sheriff's detective, the Sutter County Sheriff's Department said.

Ryan Patrick Lynn, 18, was booked into Sutter County Jail on suspicion of burglary, possession of stolen property, vandalism, destruction of evidence and resisting arrest.

At 9:14 a.m., the former detective was driving at the intersection of Harding Road and Cherry Street when he saw a man, suspected to be Lynn, climb through a broken garage window of a home on Cherry, the department said.

The former detective investigated and found the door from the garage into the home was broken off its hinges and Lynn was moving around inside the house, the department said.

Lynn attempted to leave out the garage window only to be stopped by the detective, the department said. Lynn then went back into the residence and escaped through a bedroom window. Sheriff's deputies arrived and chased him on foot, losing sight of him in the 1900 block of Jacob Street.

After sheriff's deputies and Yuba City police set up a perimeter, a sheriff's K-9 was used to located Lynn hiding in bushes near Jacob Street at 9:35 a.m.

Sheriff's department spokeswoman Brenda Baker said the former detective spent five years with the department. She did not identify the former detective.
