Linda

Boy approached near Walmart

A 12-year-old boy was approached in a suspicious manner near the Linda Walmart, Yuba County Sheriff Steve Durfor said Thursday.

The boy was walking near Walmart at about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday and encountered a white 1980s Toyota Camry. A woman sitting in the front passenger seat asked the boy if he wanted to help her find her cat, and asked him to get into the vehicle, according to Durfor.

The boy refused to get into the car, and the Camry continued east past the AM/PM gas station before turning south into the Walmart parking lot.

The woman is described as white in her 30s, with brown shoulder-length hair in a ponytail. She was wearing a white T-shirt. A rear passenger was described as a Hispanic male in his mid 30s to mid 40s with short, spiky black hair, and wearing a red and black shirt.

No information on the driver was available other than that he was male, according to sheriff's spokeswoman Melanie Oakes.

Anyone with information on the vehicle or the occupants is asked to call the Yuba County Sheriff's Department at 749-7777.

Live Oak

Car shot outside Pizza Factory

A car was hit by three to five small-caliber bullets late Wednesday in front of a Live Oak restaurant, according to a Sutter County Sheriff's Department report.

A woman reported at 9:51 p.m. that she was leaving the Pizza Factory restaurant, 10345 Highway 99, with her 17-year-old son when the shots were fired, apparently from across the highway, said department spokeswoman Brenda Baker.

Bullets hit the bumper and trunk of the 1999 Honda Accord. No one inside was hit, said Baker.

Deputies found shell casings in the area. The bullets were from a .22-caliber or .25-caliber gun, she said.

No description of the shooter was available. It's unknown if the incident was gang-related, Baker said.

Yuba County

Unpaid food debt ends with arrest

Three men who thought an acquaintance should have paid after eating food they had purchased assaulted him, and one of the men robbed him of his backpack, according to a Yuba County Sheriff's Department report.

The attack occurred about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Full Stop convenience store, 1780 N. Beale Road.

One of the men, Ben Allen Kibbe, 38, allegedly took the 21-year-old victim's backpack, which contained a CD player and clothing. Kibbe was arrested on suspicion of robbery at 2:04 a.m. Thursday at his residence in the 1800 block of Hile Avenue.

The victim had abrasions but no major injuries. Rideout Memorial Hospital notified the Sheriff's Department at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday.
