Olivehurst
Two-hour standoff ends peacefully
A man who barricaded himself in an Olivehurst home Tuesday night surrendered to Yuba County sheriff’s deputies after a standoff that lasted more than two hours.
The incident started about 7:30 p.m. in a home in the 4800 block of Beaver Lane, said Sheriff Steve Durfor.
The suspect, Evan Prothero Jr., 57, “apparently had a rifle in his possession when this happened” and “was threatening to harm himself and perhaps others,” Durfor said.
Prothero refused to leave the home after sheriff’s deputies arrived, Durfor said. Prothero was inside alone.
About 9:45 p.m., the standoff ended.
“Ultimately, he was willing to surrender himself to Sheriff’s Department personnel,” Durfor said.
The sheriff said Prothero would be booked on a charge of making terrorist threats. Other charges also were possible, Durfor said.

Woman seriously hurt in car wreck
A Pleasant Grove woman was listed in serious condition Tuesday afternoon in Sutter Roseville Hospital after the car she was driving overturned in a partially-filled canal.
The California Highway Patrol said Sharon VanDyke was driving a 1995 Jaguar north on Pacific Avenue south of Nicolaus Avenue about 9:45 a.m. Tuesday when the car drifted to the right before traveling back across both lanes sideswiping a tree and overturning in the canal. The CHP said VanDyke was suspended by her seat belt with her head just above the water line.
Rescue workers removed a passenger door and lifted VanDyke out of the car.
VanDyke received moderate head injuries and was flown by helicopter to Sutter Roseville Hospital. Drugs or alcohol did not appear to be factors in the accident.
Colusa County
Court date set for Arboga man
An arraignment has been scheduled for an Arbuckle man accused of attempted murder in connection with a stabbing Monday in Williams.
Adrian Cayetas Rosas Hernandez, 21, is to appear today in Colusa County Superior Court on charges stemming from an attack on two Williams residents, a court spokeswoman said Tuesday.
Police arrested Hernandez and 18-year-old Jorge Valencia of Arbuckle after a house party at which a hostess and guest were stabbed with a screwdriver. Both men were taken to the Colusa County Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, burglary and criminal conspiracy. The victims, 20-year-old Vanessa Zuniga and 21-year-old Jonathan Garcia, declined medical treatment, according to police.
Hernandez was denied bail because of the attempted-murder investigation against him. No arraignment date had been set Tuesday for Valencia, who was being held on $50,000 bail.
