ROBBINS
Sewer rate hike looms for residents
Robbins residents may face their second sharp hike in as many years for sewage treatment, which Sutter County warns may be needed to replace the village's crumbling system.
Monthly charges for wastewater treatment could jump by $22.50 from $55 for each dwelling, only a year after the rate soared $23. The county either put a property assessment to a mail-in vote of landowners or propose a direct fee hike, which residents could veto by majority decision.
Boosting fees are required to cover some of the $480,000 needed for new sewage treatment equipment, county water resources chief Dan Peterson said Tuesday. Fiberglass holding tanks have cracked and gravel filtering systems have clogged, putting about 100 sewer connections in Robbins at risk of losing service if the state orders a shutdown.

Baldwin was arrested as he was about to be released from Tehachapi State Prison in connection with a car-to-car shooting on Highway 101 in Monterey County in 2005.

2010-11 budget now online
If the gory details of Yuba County's 2010-11 budget are irresistible, you can find them on the county's website, where it was posted late last week.
The budget, found at www.co.yuba.ca.us/ departments/cao/Budget/10-11/default.aspx, includes specific financial plans for every county department for the fiscal year beginning July 1.
