Thanksgiving meals available for those in need

The Marysville Elks Lodge, with members and volunteers, is once again serving the annual community Thanksgiving Day meal on the holiday for people in need.

Served 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, or until the food is all gone, the free meal includes turkey with all the trimmings plus dessert and juice at 920 D St. in Marysville.

Donations of cash, packaged pastries and fruit can be dropped off at the lodge after 3 p.m. today and Wednesday or before 10 a.m. Thursday.

In addition, members of the Marysville Kiwanis Club will deliver Thanksgiving dinner to people unable to drive to the site. Persons interested must call 743-5134 by Wednesday and provide the number of meals needed, a phone number and an address.

Community Thanksgiving meals this week also include:

Wednesday

River Valley High School — Frozen Thanksgiving dinners distributed starting at 7 a.m. at 801 El Margarita Road, Yuba City, to 100 local farmworker and needy families. Operation Accion de Gracias is sponsored by the Early Risers Kiwanis Club of Yuba City. Call 822-9500.

Depot Family Crisis Center — A meal is being served 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at 408 J St., Marysville, sponsored by the Salvation Army. Call 216-4535.

Twin Cities Rescue Mission — The Thanksgiving Celebration starts at noon, with the luncheon at 2 p.m., at 940 14th St., Marysville. Call 743-8777.

Thursday

Broadway Lounge — The community dinner for people alone during the holiday starts at 2 p.m. at 9840 Broadway in Live Oak. Call Arnie Phillips at 695-3958 for more information.

Saturday

Riverbottoms Church — The service and meal for the homeless is 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at 1297 Market St., Yuba City, served by A Hand Up Ministry. To drop off donations of turkey, ham or meal trimmings, gifts, camping gear and warm clothing, call Pastor Ron Brasier at 613-2859.
