Information on a variety of services — from legal assistance to employment help and social services — is available for veterans during the Yuba-Sutter Stand Down now under way at Beckwourth Riverfront Park in Marysville.

The eighth annual event offering help to all military veterans kicks off today and continues through Saturday.

Though opening ceremonies are at noon today, participating vendors will be available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. all three days.

Services provided include medical and vision care, three meals each day, showers and clothing as well as help in alcohol and drug recovery, mental health counseling and veterans benefits.

In addition, the site, with security, is available 24 hours each day during the stand down for homeless veterans.

"If we help one person... it's worth it," said Korina Ayers, public relations and special events coordi-nator for Yuba-Sutter Stand Down.

Last year almost 240 veterans signed in at the Stand Down, according to Marvin King of the Yuba-Sutter County Veterans Service office.

The Stand Down committee works year-round preparing for the three-day stand down, Ayers said.

In addition, Yuba-Sutter Veterans Stand Down has a permanent office at 948 14th St. in Marysville. It offers aid and information for veterans from 1 to 3 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday.
