Quilt show set for this weekend

    Comments 0 | Recommend 0

Quilts in various sizes – from baby to king-size to wall hangings – are featured this weekend in "Silver Threads," the 25th annual quilt show sponsored by the Valley Quilt Guild.

A "memory lane" of past Opportunity Quilts, entries in the event’s theme challenge. Vendors and demonstrations are also part of the event.

The show is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Yuba-Sutter Fairgrounds, 442 Franklin Ave., Yuba City. Admission is a $6 donation.

"It's an opportunity to look at the creativity of the members of our quilt guild," said Sharon Easter, publicity chairwoman for the show and a founding member of the quilt guild.

This year's show also features quilter Jody Ohrt of Marysville, a certified quilt judge, teacher and lecturer. Quilting since 1995, she also teaches machine trapunto, or "puffing" a quilt for visual impact.

The technique is featured in this year's Opportunity Quilt.

In addition, the silver anniversary show is offering the public verbal appraisals of quilts for the first time, with the projects appraised by Dawn Licker. The cost is $10 per quilt.

Show participants were also able to have their quilts judged by a professional quilt judge.

The Valley Quilt Guild started in 1981 with 34 members, Easter said. The club, now with about 175 members, usually meets at 7 p.m. the last Wednesday of each month at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Yuba City.
