Mother of victim decries delay in Yuba County trial

A Marysville man charged with the death of an Olivehurst woman last year asked a Yuba County judge on Wednesday for more time to investigate the case against him.

Aaron Furr, 21, has pleaded not guilty to felony charges in connection with the April 10, 2012, death of Terany "Tera" Vessey.

Pamela Waddington, Vessey's mother, was angry with what she said have been repeated delays in the case.

"It's extremely frustrating," Waddington said Wednesday. "It just seems to be going on and he's get more time and more time and more time to go on with his daily activities."

Vessey, 24, died after she was struck by a Jeep Commander while standing on a sidewalk at F and 10th streets in Marysville.

Investigators said Furr was the driver.

Furr's attorney, Geoffrey Heitman, asked Judge Julia L. Scrogin to continue the case for another three months for unspecified "investigation."

Melanie Bendorf, deputy Yuba County district attorney, declined to say what the defense plans to examine.

Waddington said the defense hopes to look into some possible medical issues regarding Furr.

Vessey's fiancé, Justin O'Neal, and Olivehurst's Martin Fisher were hurt in the crash, which knocked out power to portions of Marysville for a brief time.

Furr was released from jail in June pending trial.

He is due back in court on March 6 for a hearing.
