Growers in Lower Snake River watershed facing deadline
Eligible producers who submit applications and other required documents by Feb. 15 will be considered for the Fiscal Year 2013 funding cycle. Funding decisions will be made according to the highest priority list of screened and ranked applications available at that time. Applications will continue to be accepted after this deadline, but ranking and funding decisions will be deferred until the next funding cycle.

Growers in a Sutter County watershed face a Feb. 15 deadline to qualify for $1.6 million in funding for water quality and conservation projects.
The Natural Resources Conservation Service is making the money available to agricultural producers in the Lower Snake River Watershed east of the Sutter Buttes and north of Yuba City to the Butte County line.
Alan Atkins, district conservationist for the Yuba City office of the conservation service, said the funding is significant for growers.
"It enables them to be able to install conservation practices that saves water and improves water quality that they would not otherwise be able to afford," he said. "It is a significant improvement to the water quality of Sutter County and the quantity of water that's available for other uses." Financial assistance is available through the Bay Delta Initiative, created in 2011 to provide incentives to farmers to apply enhanced water quality-improvement practices on their land and help improve the Bay Delta ecosystem. The effort also supports the work of the Butte-Yuba-Sutter Water Coalition, local Resource Conservation Districts and others to improve water quality and local wildlife habitat.
The Lower Snake River is within the Sutter County section of the Lower Feather River Watershed that drains to the Lower Snake River and Wadsworth Canal. The initiative provides assists agricultural producers to improve irrigation systems, implement irrigation water management, and adopt vegetative filtering practices on irrigated cropland.
