Tisdale boat ramp closes temporarily

The Tisdale Boat Launch Facility south of Meridian in Sutter County will be closed from 6 a.m. Thursday to 6 p.m. Friday for a final inspection of the newly reopened site.

Striping of the parking lot is also scheduled at that time.

The boat launch, at the Sacramento River, is at Tisdale Weir off the end of Tisdale Road. The $1.4 million construction project by the California Department of Boating and Waterways was dedicated Oct. 31.

Veterans Day fest on Tuesday

A Veterans Day celebration, with a continental breakfast, is planned from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Nicolaus Cemetery.

The event, on Marcum Road in Nicolaus, includes a presentation of colors at 9:30 a.m. on the newly restored grounds.

Live Oak

Big grant for Peach Tree Clinic

A Live Oak clinic seeking to expand both its building and children's care is among 26 medical centers sharing in a $2.5 million grant program.

Peach Tree Clinic Inc. clinic will receive $100,000 this month from Sutter Health, the Sacramento-based hospital network announced Monday. The grant is expected to pay for a 1,400-square-foot addition of its Live Oak center and children's extended care at the clinic.

Attempts to reach Peach Tree chief executive Tom Walther were unsuccessful.

Sutter Health's grant package will allot payouts of $50,000 to $100,000 to nonprofit medical and dental centers in the Central Valley, Bay Area and North Coast. Payouts will underwrite improvements ranging from new computers and equipment to expanded services and longer hours.

The Live Oak center is one of three owned by Peach Tree, which also runs a clinic and acute-care service in Linda.

Smartsville

'S' celebration set for Nov. 22

The residents of Smartsville are celebrating the return of the "s" in the community's name with a party from 1 to 3 p.m. Nov. 22 on the grounds of the historic former Catholic church in the area.

The event includes the Bear River School band from Wheatland, short speeches and cake and punch. In addition, Smartsville Church Restoration project items will be for sale along with copies of the book "Smartsville and Timbuctoo."

In case of rain, the celebration will be moved to the Smartsville fire station.

Family of the Year celebration

Families in Yuba and Sutter counties will be honored Nov. 20 during the annual Family of the Year Entertainment Evening planned at River Valley High School in Yuba City.

The event names one family from each county as a "family of the year" and honors all those nominated.

The program starts at 6:30 p.m. in the school's multipurpose room, 801 El Margarita Road, Admission is free.

Robbins

Voters say no to water fee hike

Residents of Robbins have turned aside a major fee hike planned for the Sutter County's water and sewer services.

More than 60 percent of residents in the 400-person village officially protested the increases, Daniel Peterson, county water resources chief, announced Tuesday at the Board of Supervisors meeting in Yuba City. Under Proposition 218, that total stops all action on the rate hikes.

Water Works District No. 1, which covers Robbins, had proposed lifting the monthly charge per residence from $22.50 to $99.40 for water and from $32.50 to $77.80 for sewage treatment.

Robbins water rates had not risen since 1992 and sewer charges had not changed since 1997. The district argued the higher rates are needed to cover long-deferred maintenance, but residents in a counterproposal offered to pay only $50 each for monthly water and sewer services.
