A 68-year-old Yuba City woman died Monday in a single-vehicle accident on Garden Highway, according to the Yuba-Sutter office of the California Highway Patrol.

Sharon Guthrie was pronounced dead at the scene about a half-mile south of O'Banion Road.

According to a CHP report, Guthrie was driving a 1998 Buick LeSabre south on Garden Highway at about 10:10 a.m. when the car drifted onto the gravel shoulder. When she turned the steering wheel to the left, the car crossed the northbound lane, hit a small tree, overturned and then hit a steel post.

Sutter County and Yuba City firefighters found Guthrie hanging from her seat belt. They tried unsuccessfully to revive her, the report said.

Guthrie was alone in the car. Drugs or alcohol apparently were not factors, according to the CHP.
