Sonora
College V.P. one of three finalists
Kevin Trutna, Yuba College's vice president for academic and student services, is one of three finalists to become president of Colombia College in Sonora.
Trutna was interviewed by the college's presidential search committee Wednesday and is scheduled to give a 45-minute presentation next Wednesday at Colombia College on his education and leadership philosophy. The president position became open after Joan Smith was selected to be the Yosemite Community College District chancellor.
Dennis Gervin, Columbia College's vice president of student learning, and Kenneth Meier, Butte College's vice president of student learning and economic development, are the two other finalists.
Trutna has been with the Yuba Community College District since 2002, starting as interim executive dean of the Clear Lake Campus, becoming dean of mathematics, engineering, science and health occupations at Yuba College and moving into his current position in 2006.
Yuba County
GOP opposes General Plan
Saying there is far too much in the document abrogating personal property rights and pushing an environmental agenda, the Yuba County Republican Party has voted to oppose the Yuba County General Plan.
During discussion at a special party meeting Tuesday, attendees noted county planners had made several revisions to the plan, but felt the original intent behind the plan was too much to overcome with revisions.
Party members also noted no Yuba County supervisors attended their meeting, despite being invited. The group also decided to work to recruit candidates for local office who would support the party's principles and find residents who could act as watchdogs on elected officials.
