Briefs: Neighbor stops Live Oak High theft

A neighbor prevented two burglars from making off early Thursday with a digital overhead projector from Valley Oaks Continuation School on the Live Oak High School campus in Live Oak, a Sutter County Sheriff's Department official said.

When an alarm sounded at 5:30 a.m., the Live Oak School District canceled it. But a neighbor who lives near the school at 2207 Pennington Road saw two men climbing out a window and called 911. The men left the equipment, said Undersheriff Jeff Pierce.

Deputies found Kory Steven Philpot, 22, of Live Oak, and Derrick Jason Hill, 20, of Yuba City, walking west on Pennington Road and arrested them on suspicion of burglary and conspiracy.

The projector and associated computer equipment were found stacked outside the window, Pierce said.
