Officers find woman locked inside mice-infested home

A Linda woman faces potential cruelty charges after authorities said she stole her mother's Social Security check then locked the dependent adult inside a mice-infested apartment without food or a telephone.

Tyra Jeanette Money Sherman, 23, was booked Friday into the Yuba County Jail on suspicion of cruelty to a dependent adult and false imprisonment. Bail was set at $50,000, according to booking records.

Around 10 a.m. Thursday, Yuba County Probation officers were working in the 1900 block of Country Club Court when they heard the 55-year-old woman in an apartment calling for help, Sheriff Steve Durfor said in a statement.

Investigators discovered Sherman allegedly stole her mother's check Thursday morning and locked her inside the apartment, which was described as "unkempt and infested with mice." The victim has been moved, Gil said.
