Briefs: Missing Browns Valley man back to family
A Browns Valley man, missing since Dec. 23, was found this week in Sacramento County, the Yuba County Sheriff's Department reported.
Leslie Scott Jones was last seen leaving his home around 2 a.m., sheriff's Lt. Damon Gil said.
Jones, 44, is said to have a history of hitchhiking in the Yuba-Sutter area.
It is not clear if Jones hitchhiked to Sacramento County, however.
Sacramento police found Jones on Monday.
Jones will be taken back to his family in Yuba County.
Foul play is not suspected in Jones' disappearance.

Sears, Kmart avoid 1st cut
Sears and Kmart stores in Yuba City were not included on a partial list of stores scheduled for closure released Thursday by the parent company of both businesses.
Sears Holdings released a list of the first 79 of at least 100 stories it plans on closing across the United States. The company announced the move Tuesday after reporting a severe decline in holiday earnings, but did not elaborate at the time on specific closures.
Neither the Sears at the Yuba Sutter Mall nor the Kmart at Gray and Louise avenues are included in the first 79 stores being closed.
The only California stores included on the Thursday list are two in San Diego and one in El Monte.

Mega Millions prize unclaimed
As of 5 p.m. Thursday, no one had come forward as the winner of a Mega Millions ticket sold at the 7-Eleven on Butte House Road in Yuba City.
Three tickets sold in California matched five out of the six numbers in Tuesday's drawing with the winners splitting a $1,014,318 prize, each receiving $338,106.
The three winning tickets matched the numbers 32, 43, 23, 33 and 39, missing only the Mega number of 8. The odds of matching five of the numbers was one in 4 million.
The manager of the Yuba City 7-Eleven estimated she sold 3,000 tickets for the Tuesday draw. Winners have six months from the date of the draw to claim prizes.

Free coats given away today
Free coats for people in need are being distributed today in Yuba City through the News 10 Coats for Kids program and the Salvation Army Yuba-Sutter Corps.
The coat distribution is 9 a.m.-7 p.m. at the Salvation Army's Christmas warehouse, 901-A Spiva St. Distribution is on a first-come first-served basis.
Family members do not have to be present to obtain a jacket, but some form of identification for everyone in the household is needed.
Identification can include any photo identification from any country, Social Security cards, medical cards, shot records and birth certificates.

Youth Character Camp planned
A free Character Camp for youngsters is set while school is closed during the winter break at the Allyn Scott Youth and Community Center, 1830 B St., in Marysville.
Provided by Pathways Prevention, the four-day program Tuesday through Jan. 6 will focus on a different character trait each day, along with crafts, stories, snacks, activities and role playing.
The camp is 1-4 p.m. each day.

Restaurant aids rescue mission
Chili's Grill and Bar is donating a portion of sales to the first Lights and Sirens Bowl, an event to benefit the Twin Cities Rescue Mission in Marysville.
The restaurant, 1300 Annette Way in Yuba City, will donate 15 percent of its sales from 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Tuesday.
Customers must present a flier about the fundraiser. Fliers can be downloaded from www.lightsandsirensbowl.com and are available at businesses on Plumas Street.

Bike helmet safety workshops offered
Bike helmet safety workshops for Yuba County residents are set Thursday at Yuba County Health and Human Services, 5730 Packard Ave., in Linda.
Proof of residency in Yuba County is required.
Open to participants under 18 years, a Spanish-language class is at 10 a.m., with the English-speaking class at 2 p.m. Children completing the safety class will receive a bike helmet.

Photo exhibit benefits FREED
"Flights," a photo exhibit featuring the work of John Hollis, will be held Jan. 27 at The Brick Coffee House Cafe in Marysville.
The exhibit and reception are 6-8 p.m. at 316 D St., Marysville.
Admission is $20 per person and includes a raffle ticket, with proceeds benefiting FREED Center for Independent Living, a resource center serving people of all ages with disabilities.
