Briefs: Yuba City man pleads guilty to brutal stabbing
A Yuba City man pleaded guilty earlier this week to stabbing another man in head and neck with a screwdriver in Woodland last year, the Yolo County District Attorney's Office reported.
Harjiwan Mann, 36, admitted to the attempted murder of Mohammad Bath, also of Yuba City. It is Mann's third strike, authorities said, and he faces 25 years to life in state prison.
Authorities said Mann stabbed Bath "numerous times in the head and neck with a screwdriver" and later admitted to detectives that he was "thinking of stabbing Bath because he was angry with him."
Bath "suffered permanent injuries from the attack," Deputy District Attorney Christopher Bulkeley said in a statement.
SUTTER COUNTY
Stolen items back before victim knew
A Marysville man was already under investigation for shoplifting Thursday night when Sutter County sheriff's detectives found $12,000 in property tied to a separate burglary that had not been reported.
The victim was unaware that some of his property had been missing until the Sheriff's Department called to inform him of the recovery, Capt. Lewis McElfresh said.
Several cameras, checkbooks, computer equipment and an I-Pad were recovered, but detectives believe there is other property still missing from the burglary, which is believed to have occurred Wednesday night in the 400 block of Railroad Avenue.
Detectives are looking for anyone who may have seen something that could help the ongoing investigation.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff's Department at 822-7307.
