Briefs: Gun group's leader at Yuba City event
The executive director of the Gun Owners of California will visit Yuba City to discuss successful engagement in the political arena.
Sam Paredes will host a one-day seminar, covering confronting political opponents and making their mistakes work against them. The Sutter Buttes Tea Party Patriots is sponsoring the seminar, which includes a book by retired state Sen. H.L. Richardson, R-Glendora.
The seminar is 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Feb. 25 in the meeting room of the Sutter-Yuba Association of Realtors, 1558 Starr Drive, Yuba City. Lunch is also available for $5.

Whiteaker holding fundraising dinner
Sutter County Supervisor Jim Whiteaker will have a fundraising re-election dinner Feb. 23 at the Star of India restaurant in Yuba City.
Whiteaker, a teacher who is seeking election to his third full term on the board, is running against challenger Preet Didbal, a member of the Yuba City Planning Commission.
The fundraiser begins with a 6 p.m. reception, followed by dinner. Reservations are required; donations will be accepted.

Judge candidate gets endorsements
Attorney Al Carrion has picked up a handful of endorsements in his bid to become a Sutter County judge.
Both former Yuba County Sheriff Virginia Black and former Colusa County Sheriff John J. Troughton confirmed they're backing Carrion, who's seeking the judgeship begin vacated by H. Ted Hansen.
Carrion's campaign said he's also received the endorsement of former Yuba City Councilman Rory Ramirez, though Ramirez has not yet confirmed the endorsement. Ten people are seeking the seat Hansen is retiring from.
YUBA COUNTY
GOP sets Lincoln Day Dinner
The Yuba County Republican Party is hosting its annual Lincoln Day Dinner Saturday at St. Joseph's Church Father O'Sullivan Room, 702 C St., Marysville.
The event, 6-9 p.m., features keynote speaker retired state Sen. H.L. Richardson. He is the author of "Confrontational Politics."
In addition, local investor Doug Binderup will speak about "American exceptionalism."
Elected officials and candidates have been invited to attend.
