Gang sweep rumbles through Marysville
Assault rifles drawn, gang and drug agents stormed three Marysville homes on Friday afternoon looking for five gang members tied to shootings in Yuba-Sutter.
At least two people were arrested and at least one illegal firearm was seized, authorities said, but details of the gang-related raids were scant. Names of people arrested were not available.
"We have few people still outstanding," Yuba City police Sgt. Chad Lizardo said. "We're looking for weapons and gang indicia."
Lizardo said gang investigators recently developed information regarding multiple shootings in Yuba City, Marysville and other parts of Yuba County that were never reported to law enforcement.
Details of the attacks were not released.
Lizardo referred all other questions to officials at the NET-5 Task Force. They were unavailable for comment.
In addition to the gang and drug task forces, the Yuba County sheriff's SWAT team served at least three search warrants Friday afternoon along with Marysville police.
Two warrants were served in the 1200 block of G Street around 2:15 p.m. and another a short time later in the 1100 block of 11th Street.
At least 15 people were detained at one point on G Street, including several children, while agents searched homes.
Groups of people were escorted to shaded areas to be interviewed by investigators. Only some of the adults were placed in handcuffs, while children were instructed to sit on the front lawn.
Around 2:30 p.m., the SWAT team was seen driving from G Street in a large armored vehicle, followed by a convoy of police and sheriff's deputies, to a home at the dead end of the 1000 block of 11th Street.
"Sheriff's Department! Search warrant!" a voice called out through a large speaker on the tactical vehicle. Armed agents then banged on the front door.
Two men and a woman came out of the house with their hands in the air and were placed into handcuffs as SWAT members searched the home.
Several residents in both neighborhoods declined to comment, even anonymously, fearing gang retaliation.
