Briefs: Olivehurst man accused of burglary with curtain rod
A Olivehurst man confronted a neighbor trying to break into his shed with a curtain rod Saturday evening.
Michael Wayne Morris, 46, a parolee whose own residence is less than a block away in the 5500 block of Arboga Road, dropped the curtain rod and ran when confronted.
The incident occurred at about 7:45 p.m. Morris was apprehended nearby shortly afterward by the Yuba County Sheriff's Office and found to be in possession of a small amount of methamphetamine, according to Lt. Damon Gil.
He was later arrested and booked into Yuba County Jail on suspicion of attempted burglary, possession of narcotics, and violation of parole.
Health education classes set
Several free community health education classes are set this week in Yuba City, hosted by Rideout Health.

Rideout Health, formerly known as the Fremont-Rideout Health Group, operates several medical facilities including hospitals in Marysville and Yuba City in the Yuba-Sutter region.
Banks closed for Columbus Day
Banks and federal government offices, including the US Postal Service, are closed today in observance of Columbus Day.
Schools and most other government offices are not affected by the holiday.
Services not affected today also include Yuba-Sutter Transit, Yuba-Sutter Recology and the Appeal-Democrat.
Roadwork scheduled today
Motorists can expect one-way traffic controls from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. today between West Butte Road and Drexler Road in Sutter County.
The California Department of Transportation also advised that various north- and southbound lanes will be closed from 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday on Highway 99 between Laurel Avenue and Marcuse Road in Sutter County.
Miscellaneous roadwork is scheduled at both sites.
