Briefs: Ceremony for Macy store set for Saturday

A marker designating the Macy General Merchandise store in Marysville is set, hosted by the Native Sons of the Golden West, Sutter Parlor 261.

The ceremony, featuring a Yuba Blue stone from Smartsville, is at 10 a.m. Saturday at First and D streets.

Before opening Macy's in New York City, Roland Macy and his brother Charles opened a business in Marysville in 1850.

Artists featured at council event

Almost 20 local artists will be featured at the Artisans Presence at the Yuba-Sutter Regional Arts Council gallery in Marysville.

The free event, with artwork available for purchase, is from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 17 at 624 E St.

Women's Creative Circle, a program of the arts council, is providing refreshments.

King's Table seeks donations

Donations of food and funds are needed for The King's Table, a free community table that feeds those in need at the 10th Street Diner in Marysville.

The table, located inside the restaurant, is for veterans, families in need and the homeless.

Artists reception set for Nov. 1

Work by Waif Mullins and Paul and Tamra Spoto is featured in November at the Theater Gallery in Yuba City.

A reception for the artists is 4:30 p.m.-7 p.m. Nov. 1 at 752 Plumas St.

The gallery is open 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday to Friday.

Performance benefits theater

Proceeds from the Nov. 3 performance of "Fiddler on the Roof" in Yuba City is being donated to the Sutter Performing Arts Association and its efforts to renovate the Sutter Theater on Plumas Street.

Doors open at 7 p.m. for champagne and the show starts at 8 p.m. at The Acting Company theater, 815 B St.

Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at the Theater Gallery, 752 Plumas St., Yuba City, or call 740-0105.

Mid-Valley

Schools honored for blood drives

Several local high schools were recognized for their exemplary community service hosting blood drives sponsored by BloodSource.

Awards included:

Symbol of Excellence — Wheatland and Pleasant Valley high schools, for the most registered donors.

Stellar Performance — River Valley and Willows high schools, for the most units collected at a blood drive.

Blood Drive of the Year — Marysville, Lindhurst and Willows high schools.

Barbara Hankins of Colusa High School was recognized for 20 years of service as an adviser for the blood drive team.
