Briefs: Boat launch at Tisdale Weir reopened

The boat launch at Tisdale Weir on Sacramento River has been reopened by the Sutter County Public Works Department after being closed for several days when water from the river overflowed the weir.

Sites remaining closed due to flooding include four roads through the Sutter Bypass, Sacramento Avenue and Hughes Avenue in southern Sutter County and Franklin Road and Pass Road in northern Sutter County.

Plumas Lake

Decorated homes in competition

More than 40 homes in the Plumas Lake area are entered in the community's first Night of Lights competition taking place along with the Winter Festival hosted at Riverside Meadows Intermediate School.

The inaugural festival is 6 p.m.-9 p.m. Friday. at the school, 1751 Cimarron Drive in Plumas Lake, with food, desserts, local vendors, kids' games and silent auctions, sponsored by the Parent Teacher Student Association.

Maps of the decorated homes taking part in the competition are available at the school that night, with ballots handed out one per car.

Voting is from 6 p.m.-11 p.m. The top three favorites will receive prizes donated by local businesses.

Yuba City

Story, songs part of museum event

Aondreaa the Storytailor will perform a Christmas tale and holiday songs during the annual Children's Program and Open House at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Community Memorial Museum of Sutter County in Yuba City.

Punch, holiday cookies and hot mulled cider will be served after the program.

Admission is free. The library is at 1333 Butte House Road.

Regular museum hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday to Friday and noon-4 p.m. Saturday. The museum store will be open from noon-4 p.m. Sundays through Dec. 23.

Marysville

Artist reception set Dec. 21

"Wizards and Lizards," featuring metal sculptures by Michael Conely and paintings by Ernie Levya is on display through Jan. 25 at the Yuba-Sutter Regional Arts Council Gallery, 624 E St., Marysville.

A reception from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. Dec. 21 is set for the artists.

Admission is free, with light refreshments served.

Gallery hours are noon-4 p.m. Tuesday to Friday and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday.

Marysville

Craft workshops planned at library

Holiday craft workshops are set the next two weekends at the Yuba County Library in Marysville.

The free workshop is 1 p.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and Dec. 22 in the Community Room, 303 Second St.

Activities at the library also include Grandma's Story Time at 2 p.m. both Saturdays, plus an appearance by Santa at 2 p.m. Dec. 22.

All events at the library are free of charge.

Yuba-Sutter

Judge remains hospitalized

A Yuba County judge remained hospitalized Wednesday, a day after a three-car crash on Market Street in Yuba City.

Judge Debra L. Givens was listed in stable condition Wednesday evening at Rideout Regional Medical Center in Marysville.

Mercedes Brockman, 23, of Yuba City, was also listed in stable condition, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Givens, 47, was waiting to turn left from Market Street onto Lynn Way around 5:15 p.m. when her BMW 325 was struck by Brockman's Jeep 4x4, Yuba City police said.

The collision pushed Givens' car into a Chevrolet Silverado driven by Manjit Gill of Yuba City.

Gill, 54, was not hurt.

The crash remains under investigation, police said Wednesday.

Shop With a Cop is next week

Sutter County sheriff's deputies are gearing up for the sixth annual Shop With a Cop next week in Yuba City.

Deputies take children on a $100 shopping spree at Walmart to purchase gifts for their families.

This year, 26 kids will be selected from 21 Sutter County schools to participate in the program.

Five children participated during the program's first year in 2007 and the program has grown every year.

Community donations make up the sole funding source.

Each year the sheriff's department organizes the event in conjunction with the Sutter County Sheriff's Reserve Association.
