Briefs: Crab, gumbo feed is Friday
An all you can eat crab and gumbo feed is scheduled for 5 p.m.-8 p.m. today to benefit the Wheatland Future Farmers of America.
A silent auction is also part of the event set in the Wheatland Union High School cafeteria, 1010 Wheatland Road.

Film screenings Friday, Saturday
Two documentary films featuring local subjects, about the social politics of facial hair and the mosque in Yuba City destroyed by arson, are being sponsored by the Yuba-Sutter Interfaith and Cultural Council.
"Beard Club" is at 6 p.m. today at the Lee Burrows Center for the Arts, 630 E St., Marysville.

"An American Mosque" is at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Yuba College Theatre, 2088 N. Beale Road, Linda. Admission is free.
The program includes a question and answer session with the documentary's filmmaker.

Mall to host Heart Walk
Live music and a variety of free health screenings are part of the 10th annual Bless Your Heart Walk at the Yuba Sutter Mall, hosted by Rideout Health Foundation.
The event is at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, with registration at 7:30 a.m., inside the mall at Highways 99 and 20 in Yuba City.
Registration is $20. Proceeds benefit the Rideout Heart Center's cardiac care program and services.
Activities at the annual walk include screenings and vendors for blood pressure, BMI and carotid ultrasound; fitness and nutrition experts; and awards for best dressed individual walkers and teams.

Arts Council plans concert
Soft rock trio Uno Mundo and special guests The Villa Reál Girls will perform at 7 p.m. Feb. 16 at the Lee Burrows Center for the Arts, 630 E St., Marysville.
The trio — featuring Kenny Trujillo on acoustic guitar and vocals, Brian Nakagawa, electric guitar; and Sam Jellsey, bass guitar — pays tribute to such artists as James Taylor, Jesse Colin Young and Bob Dylan.

Vacancy on commission
Applications are being accepted to fill a vacancy on the Sutter County Fish and Game Advisory Commission.
Applicants must be residents of Sutter County and have an interest in fish and game propagation.
The position represents District 5.
Applications can be picked up and returned to the clerk of the Board of Supervisors, 1167 Civic Center Blvd., Yuba City.

Group treasurer receives warning
The treasurer for a political group active in a Sutter County ballot measure five years ago has received a warning letter from the state Fair Political Practices Commission over failure to file a campaign statement.
Holly Stout, treasurer for the Sutter County Citizens for Good Government, received the FPPC letter this month after failing to file semiannual campaign statements for the group covering the period between March 28 and June 30 of last year.
The letter states because of no previous enforcement issues, Stout won't receive any penalties, but could face fines of up to $5,000 for future violations and also has to file the missing statement.
Sutter County Citizens for Good Government formed in 2008 to oppose Measure R, which would have created a charter commission for Sutter County government. The measure failed, and the group does not seem to have been active in recent years beyond endorsing the occasional candidate.

Perfect scores for legislators
Both Yuba-Sutter legislators received perfect scores on the National Federation of Independent Business' annual scorecard, voting in a way the group defined as helpful to small businesses on 13 selected bills last year.
Then-Assemblyman Jim Nielsen, R-Gerber, and Assemblyman Dan Logue, R-Loma Rica, voted for bills to reform public employee pensions and overhaul torts on Americans with Disabilities Act cases, and against bills to provide overtime for farm workers and ban Styrofoam to-go containers from food service.
Eight of the 13 bills reviewed by the group were signed into law by Gov. Jerry Brown; the rest either failed in one chamber or were vetoed by Brown. Nielsen has since been elected to the state Senate, replacing new US Rep. Doug LaMalfa, who also received a perfect score.

Water board member leaving
A Sutter County resident is stepping down from the State Water Resources Control Board, after serving for seven years and as the board's chair since 2009.
Charlie Hoppin, a partner in a family farming operation growing melons, rice, walnuts and more, has announced he will leave the water board this year to spend more time with his farm and family, according to a press release from the state. Hoppin said he was happy to have worked with the board on boosting the state's water supply and quality.
Hoppin served as a gubernatorial adviser on the 1997 flood recovery effort, a board member of Sutter Mutual Water Co. and as a member of the state Board of Food and Agriculture.
