Truck crashes into Yuba City Dairy Queen

A driver who apparently had a medical emergency crashed Wednesday morning into a speed-limit sign, a stop sign and the Dairy Queen on Live Oak Boulevard in Yuba City, authorities said.

Anthony Bugni, 52, received lacerations and a concussion from the collision. Yuba City firefighters extricated Bugni from his pickup after cutting through the vehicle with the Jaws of Life to reach him, Yuba City police spokeswoman Shawna Pavey said.

He was taken to Rideout Memorial Hospital for treatment. An update on his condition was not available later Wednesday.

Neither drugs nor alcohol are suspected factors, Pavey said.

Police responded around 6 a.m. to the Dairy Queen in the 1300 block of Live Oak Boulevard.

Bugni's Toyota Tacoma was traveling south when the truck crossed over into the northbound lanes and struck a curb in front of the New Adventures Day Care, Pavey said.

The vehicle continued back south along the sidewalk and knocked out the two road signs before crashing through the side of the fast-food restaurant.

Dairy Queen store owner Arthur Haro said none of his employees was present during the collision and his store was able to open for business, after the Yuba City Building Department inspected the damage. Haro said it remains unclear whether the store may have to close temporarily once repairs begin.

"I hope we can work around it so we don't have to," Haro said.
