Seven arrested in Yuba County underage alcohol sting

Police arrested seven people on Friday for furnishing alcohol to minors.

The arrests came during a joint undercover sting operation between the Marysville Police Department and the Yuba County Sheriff's Department.

The "Should Tap" and "Minor Decoy" operations are funded through a grant from the state Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control.

Furnishing an alcoholic beverage to a person under the age of 21 is a misdemeanor crime. Violators face steep fines, possible jail time and community service. Despite common belief, decoys do not try to "trick" adults or use fake identification, police said.

The latest data from the CHP indicates 105 persons under the age of 21 were killed in 2009 as a result of driving with alcohol in their blood. Another 2,197 persons under the age of 21 were injured while driving with alcohol in their blood.

Cited and released on Friday were:

Shane E. Reed, 41, of the 1600 block of 11th Street, Olivehurst.

Bryan M. Hesspage, 22, of the 1200 block of Casita Drive, Yuba City.

Rosa L. Escovar, 36, of the 2200 block of Pepper Street, Sutter.

Jagpal S. Rai, 47, of the 1900 block of Michelle Drive, Yuba City.

Randeep S. Kooner, 24, of the 1900 block of Harbans Drive, Yuba City.

Sean E. North, 38, of Yuba City.
