Accident blocks 10th St. bridge

Drivers heading west on the 10th Street bridge Saturday were stopped for roughly 20 minutes while emergency crews cleared a minor injury accident.

Traffic was backed up to G Street around 4:20 p.m. and many vehicles on the bridge's incline parked while drivers waited for the congestion to clear.

Marysville and Yuba City fire departments responded to the crash on the bridge's span where a truck had jack knifed. Injuries of persons in the involved vehicles were not known, but reports heard on dispatch said one person was transported to the hospital

Traffic moved at full speed by 4:40 p.m.

Water Agency receives honor

The National Hydropower Association last week honored the Yuba County Water Agency with the Outstanding Stewards of America's Waters Award.

The Water Agency was one of five recipients recognized for developing projects and programs that exemplify industry-leading best practices in producing climate-friendly, affordable and renewable energy.

The association noted YCWA's retrofit of a bypass to its Narrows 2 dam and powerhouse.

The project maintains optimum flow and water temperature to sustain valuable fisheries in the Yuba River, protecting threatened spring-run Chinook salmon and helping to preserve the last self-sustaining wild steelhead population in the Central Valley.dobbins

Resort plans expansion

Lake Francis Resort in Dobbins plans to expand its services and footprint in the Yuba County foothills after receiving a permit to build new structures.

The resort, owned and operated by Environmental Alternatives, a foster family agency, acquired 20 acres of land to build a 5,000 square foot residential structure, dining hall and commercial kitchen.

These building will house 16 individuals 18 to 24 years old who've been in the foster care system. The program will to help them learn life skills such as how to cook and balance a check book.

Joe Wylie, resource program supervisor, said the organization hopes to begin construction this summer and occupy the buildings by the end of the year.

Wylie said similar programs exist in southern California. Lake Francis' program will be one of the first in the northern part of the state.
