Bike racer died of broken neck

A fractured neck caused the death of a 17-year-old motorcycle racer at Beckwourth Riverfront Park, a spokeswoman for Yuba County Sheriff/Coroner Steve Durfor said Wednesday.

Benjamin Turner of Sacramento died late Saturday after an accident on the motocross track at the park.

Contributions to a memorial fund for Turner can be made at any branch of Bank of America.

Studio celebrating 10th anniversary

Jacque's Dance Expressions is celebrating its 10-year anniversary starting today with four days of recitals at the Marysville Community Auditorium.

Performances are at 7 p.m. today and Friday; 1:30 and 7 p.m. Saturday; and 2 and 6:30 p.m. Sunday. The auditorium is at 1919 B St. in Marysville.

Three different casts, with a total of more than 480 dancers, will appear in the six shows. A special alumni cast performance features several students from the past 10 years.

Summer concert series starts today

The Ophir Prison Band is featured at 6 p.m. today at Gauche Aquatic Park, 421 C St. in Yuba City, in the first show of this year's free Summer Concert Series.

Food and barbecue will be available for purchase at the event, presented by the Yuba City Parks and Recreation Department. Money raised will benefit the Feather River Aquatic Club.

This year's concert series theme is "100 Songs of Summer."

Strollers to a musical beat

Live music is part of the Yuba City Summer Stroll set from 4 to 10 p.m. Friday on Plumas Street in downtown Yuba City.

Activities also include a children's area; arts, crafts and food vendors; a shine car and bike show; and informational booths.

Many downtown stores and restaurants, including those in the section where the street is closed to traffic due to construction, will remain open during the stroll. Sidewalks will be open to businesses on Plumas Street north of Teegarden.

The event is sponsored by the Yuba City Downtown Business Association.

Transit programs open to review

The Yuba-Sutter Transit directors will accept comments on proposed stop and schedule changes during a special meeting at 7 p.m. Aug. 7 at the Yuba County Board of Supervisors Chambers, 915 Eighth St., Marysville.

The proposed changes include integrating the new McGowan Parkway Park and Ride Lot into existing Sacramento services.
