    Gridley

    Control burn at Gray Lodge

    A 345-acre control burn in the Gray Lodge Wildlife Area is scheduled Monday to Friday, weather permitting, by Cal Fire and the California Department of Fish and Game.

    The burn will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Smoke will be visible from both Highways 99 and 70 in the southern Butte County area. The wildlife area is 6 miles west of Gridley.

    Agencies also taking part include the Gridley Fire Department and Butte County Fire.

    Mid-valley

    3 WWII vets to be honored

    Three Mid-Valley residents are among several World War II veterans who will be honored Monday for the first time during the annual Holocaust Memorial Ceremony at the State Capitol in Sacramento.

    The veterans to be honored include Obie Wickersham of Yuba City, Bill Westcot of Gridley and Holger Rasmussen of Penn Valley.

    Elk group holds banquet

    The 19th annual Yuba-Sutter Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation banquet and auction is set at 5 p.m. May 2 at the Yuba-Sutter Fairgrounds, Franklin Hall, 442 Franklin Ave., Yuba City.

    Activities include live and silent auctions, prizes and activities for children.

    Tickets, available in advance only, are $95 per couple or $65 per person and include membership and a prime rib dinner. Tickets should be purchased by noon Friday.

    Yuba-Sutter

    Garden Tour sells tickets

    Tickets are available for the 17th annual Garden Tour sponsored by the Marysville-Yuba City Branch of the American Association of University Women.

    The self-guided tour is slated from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. May 2.

    The event features eight gardens, including a Julia Morgan-designed home. Maps are available the morning of the tour at Plumas Boulevard and C Street, west of the fountain, in Yuba City.

    Tickets, $15, can be purchased at The Flower Petal'er, Harpers Ferry, Sperbeck's Nursery, Yuba City Florist and Botanica Landscapes in Yuba City and the Candy Box and Union Lumber in Marysville.

    Tickets are also available may be purchased on the day of the event at the map pick-up location.

    Money raised benefits AAUW projects throughout the year including a week-long math and science summer camp for seventh-grade girls' at Stanford University.
